Description
A very unusual 18th century Chinese export porcelain coffee cup & saucer with a very delicate entwined stem handle, decorated with a rich underglaze blue ground, swags of hand painted European style flowers and gilding.
*Probably made in imitation or as replacement for an 18th century Italian porcelain service . It doesn’t show well in the photos but the blue ground is actually on a raised moulded section of the porcelain, indicating that these pieces were made for this pattern, not ‘off the shelf’ blanks.
Qianlong period.
