Description

A good 18th century Staffordshire pottery figure of a shepherd carrying ‘The Lost Sheep’ on his shoulder.
Earthenware decorated with Ralph Wood type coloured glazes.
* Note the unglazed ‘dry’ interior to the base, a classic feature of early coloured glaze figures, the figure is ‘painted’ with glazes, not ‘dipped’.

Date: circa 1785
Height : 8½” (21.5cm)
Condition : Restoration to the base, ankles, sheep’s left ear and the end of the shepherd’s stick.
