An interesting early Derby porcelain plate, hand painted in enamels with a scene depicting Zhang Shen from The Romance of the Western Chamber, before a walled pavilion, the border with scrolls, vases and other precious objects, in the Kangxi ‘Famille Verte’ style.
’Ding’ mark painted in blue enamel, within a double circle.
Date: circa 1780-1800
Diameter: 8⅜︎” (21.3cm)
Condition : Hairline from the rim, tiny flakes of enamel, very faint glaze ‘star’ No restoration.

AD Comment: A scarce example, possibly made as an addition to a service or maybe just an imitation.
Two interesting things to look at:
1: The footrim is painted with yellow enamel, to imitate Chinese porcelain.
2: The ‘ding’ mark is a copy of a Chinese mark but was also used at Derby, usually on C18th blue and white wares.
