Description
18th century Chinese export porcelain oblong sauce tureen with stylised ‘Rabbit head’ handles, with matching cover and stand, hand painted in typical ‘Nanking’ in underglaze blue with later ‘Clobbered’ over painting added in Europe. Note the hand painted stems of Bamboo on the underside of the stand
Circa : 1760-80
Height: 4¼” (11cm)
Length of stand : 7¾” (19.7cm)
Condition: *Small chips/fritting to rim of stand and inside rim of tureen (see photos) some wear to gilding. No restoration.
* It appears that the small chips occured before the ‘clobbering’, it is possible that this was the reason for ‘upgrading’ the piece with additional colour.
