Description
A very scarce 18th century Worcester (1st/Dr Wall period) porcelain table centrepiece or Sweetmeat Stand of tiered scallop shells embedded in a rocky mound profusley decorated with applied shells and seaweed. The interior of the shells decorated with hand painted polychrome flowers and gilt line rims, the encrusted shells & foliage picked out in enamel colours.
Date: circa 1768
Height : 8″ (20cm)
Width: 10¾” (27.5cm)
Condition : Overall condition is very good with just some chipping the rim of two shells and some of the encrustations. As a result of the complex construction of the piece (see photos of the underside) and the many variations in thickness of the porcelain, there are multiple ‘stress cracks’ some of which are ‘extended’ and visible on some of the scallop shells and the underside.
There is absolutely NO restoration at all.
