Todays photograph is an interesting comparison between two early 19th century Staffordshire pottery figures of a boy setting fire to a piece of kindling, using a magnifying glass, he is emblematic of ‘Fire’ from a set of earths four elements.
The figure on the left is normal Staffordshire pearlware, slightly above average quality, the figure on the right is smaller, more delicate, crisply moulded and with exceptional decoration, just look at the additional images showing the fine detail of his waistcoat…
