Unusual Staffordshire Eagle & Globe Penholder.

Description

An unusual 19th century Staffordshire pottery penholder in the form of an Eagle on a globe supported by three dolphins and sea shells.
Pearlware decorated with overglaze enamel colours.
*This model was produced by Spode in the 1820’s ( see photographs for an example illustrated by Leonard Whiter in his book ‘Spode’) This is a pearlware copy of Spode, the ochre enamel is an attempt to imitate gilding.
Circa : 1825-30
Height : 6″ (15cm)
Condition: Some old restoration to two of the dolphin’s mouths and one of the shells, a few other small glaze chips. The eagle is in excellent condition.
