Staffordshire Pottery Large Figure of Britannia.


A good quality 19th century Staffordshire pottery large figure of Britannia, seated on a green mound base holding a shield and with a well moulded lion at her side.
Impressed mark ‘Wood & Caldwell’ and incised ‘Britannia’ to back of base.
Pearlware decorated with overglaze enamel colours.
** Buyers should be aware that there are later versions of this figure, made in Staffordshire using the old moulds & produced towards the end of the 19th century, they are often passed off as early by unscrupulous dealers…..
Circa: 1825
Height: 24.00cm (9.45 inches)
Condition: Good overall condition with just professional restoration to her right arm and part of the plume on her helmet.
* Trident is a modern Silver-Gilt replacement.
No other damage or restoration.
