Isaac Van Amburgh Commemorative Jug.

Staffordshire Commemorative Jug.
Buff coloured earthenware jug with crisp moulded decoration celebrating Isaac Van Amburgh’s visit to London in 1838/9.
His stage performance with ‘wild’ animals was a huge success, Queen Victoria apparently attended the show several times, it is not known if she was attracted by the animals or Van Amburgh’s hairy legs and short skirt…😬
Circa 1839
